Red Door Escape Room Plano - Warrior's Way

This room looks so nice, and the decor and props and everything you encounter fits in very well with the theme and overall completion of the room. There isn't a lot of extra, but there also wasn't enough content for our group. We could have done this as a group of two and had a better time, but our group of six breezed through this room. We were proud to finish quickly, but also a little sad to not have more challenging things to keep us engaged in the room longer. I am glad that things in the room made a lot of sense, the flow was logical, and there were no leaps of logic required.

Quality:★★★★Things are in great shape and put together well, so players should get consistent game play over time.

Difficulty:★We finished the room VERY quickly. There weren't really enough puzzles, and those we did we way too easy for our group.

Fun:★★Parts were fun, but overall this was just so easy that it was mellow.

Escape Hunt Dallas - Disappearance in Dallas

This one is hard to write about without giving too much away, but I will try! I had a bit of fun in this room, and while there were moments where I didn't have much I could do, I did have plenty to do the rest of the time. There are some great puzzles mixed with some not so great necessarily, but challenging. It was definitely something that kept my brain engaged, even when I was waiting.

Theme:★★★★Okay. So. This was kinda creepy, but very well done.

Quality:★★★Most things worked great, but there were a few items that were a little torn and made one puzzle harder than necessary.

Difficulty:★★★★This was hard, and communication was super important. If you want a challenge, this is for you.

Fun:★★★I mostly had fun here, but there was a small part of time where I didn't really have much to do.

Red Door Escape - The Gift

This is a room I have definitely heard great things about, and was encouraged all around to book this. I'm glad we did, and I'm glad we got paired up with a great couple (new to escape rooms but great at spotting details and taking the lead when we got a little lost at the end). We worked well together, and having a few folks with different experience levels helped when looking for details and thinking about how to use those. This room looks very nice, and I'm glad after my experience in Encounter before. On another note - I got a book safe and T-shirt after this visit, and that was a nice bonus.

Theme:★★★★This room goes along well with the story, and it is nicely laid out/put together. I like the flow of the room.

Quality:★★★Everything in hear worked very well (which was expected as the room was so new). However, there is a small part of the room that seemed like something was missing, and there was another thing in the room that looked like a puzzle that we never had to use.

Difficulty:★★★This was a good mix of puzzles, both in terms of types and difficulty levels. There really is something for everyone here, and the team we had worked well together.

Fun:★★★★★This was very fun - I think we all liked different things about the room (I loved the stuff in the middle most; I think Evan liked the ending).

Red Door Escape Room Plano - Encounter

I was very disappointed here - there was a lot of promise at the start, but quickly we just began guessing and hoping for the answer. For the mostly part, we had a very difficult time knowing we'd even finished a puzzle, and most of the time we didn't know how we'd done it. It was frustrating, and the other couple we were with were equally frustrated. At the end, in the parking lot, we all just stared at each other like...well, what the heck was that?

Theme:★★★★This really looks nice inside. All parts are in line with the theme of the room.

Quality:★★things are mostly in order, but there was something broken for us that made it difficult to solve a puzzle, and we had to ask the staff about it after five minutes before getting assistance.

Difficulty:★★★★This is hard, the puzzles are slightly ambiguous, and I still do not know how we solved a majority of this room. We would get something and not realize how or even that we had.

Fun:★Not really. There was a period of time that I stood by the wall staring and Evan had to ask me to participate again. This was just so much guess work that it was not a fun time.

Red Door Escape Room Plano - The Ruins

...I have liked their rooms at the location in Grapevine, so I was really hoping to enjoy this room as much. Overall, it was okay, but it was also very much a mystery what to do at various points. Luckily, we were all willing to try things multiple ways to come up with a solution, because I can recall at least two puzzles that we had to try a lot even after getting clues. I loved the decor and the person running to room for us, and the two folks who joined us were great. But overall...I just left a little let down.

Theme:★★★★This room looks good, especially when you hear how much time they spent making some of the elements in it. This is one of the better looking ruins-related rooms we've been in.

Quality:★★★Everything was in great shape when we went (around opening of the room), although some items were unclear what to do.

Difficulty:★★★★This was hard for us for a couple of reasons. First, some of the puzzles really didn't make sense or match up well to clues given in the room or from the staff. Second, we tend to miss hidden things.

Fun:★There were a couple of puzzles that were pretty fun, but overall this experience relied on too many things that were confusing and frustrating.

The Escape Hunt Experience Dallas - Circuit Overload

On another lazy Sunday afternoon, we wanted out of the house and we got a few friends to join us for this escape room (and we are glad we came to this one!). The story on this one was fun, and the room really goes with the experience we expected. We loved so many of the props and the things that brought the room together. This was a really good experience, followed by dinner and drinks at a nearby bar.

Theme:★★★★There were so many neat areas in this room, and each really worked well - we loved the progression and the props really were quite fun.

Quality:★★★★This was in great shape and everything worked fine. Although a few things were a little tricky, this was probably by design so we embraced it.

Difficulty:★★The room itself was pretty easy for us, with some puzzles coming quickly and those that didn't were just a little tricky and quick fun.

Fun:★★★★★This was super fun - the theme was a big part of that, and we loved the movement through the experience. Looks like this was fun to create and we had a great time.

Escape Hunt Dallas - Lone Star

We were meeting a friend for dinner in the same parking lot and saw this escape room, so on the way out called and got Evan and I into a room right away (so much better than going home and doing chores!). They are very organized and their approach to the rooms is great and supportive of those inside. However, in this room (not another we've done since) we did just guess on a few things that we weren't logically able to figure out. And we used most of our clues on the same puzzle.

Theme:★★★★This isn't our first Dallas-themed room, but it is definitely the better of them. So many things come together and are built so well that it is a great time.

Quality:★★★This was very well built, although one of the puzzles was a little broken and that caused it to be easier to tell what to do.

Difficulty:★★★Most of the puzzles were fairly intuitive, though they did take time. A couple required a bit more effort and hints.

Fun:★★★We had fun, but have to admit that a couple of the puzzles were frustrating enough to make us lose hope of getting out.

Breakout - Hostage

We did hostages and found it to be well themed, progressive and fairly challenging. There was one little thing a little out of alignment, but a quick question to the hostess solved it. We've done several other rooms and this one is very high in our list due to the creativity and unique use of props. Its not super showy fancy, but just a well done room. The only downside to this room was it basically being an oven in there. A box fan in the corner didn't really do anything to help 6 people in a small room for an hour. We didn't see any AC vents anywhere, but they are new and we assume they plan to resolve that before summer, hopefully.

Theme:★★★This was well themed and some of the decor seemed so authentic that it was somewhat scary at first.

Quality:★★★★This was good - all but one puzzle was clear once we understood it, and as noted above, we were able to figure that one out by asking when the alignment seemed odd.

Difficulty:★★★There were some great puzzles here - some took us a bit to figure out but once we took the time to get them, the next step was clear.

Fun:★★★★This was very fun - some great creative puzzles and some good pairing with others (which was oddly appropriate for this scenario) made this a great time.

Escape Expert - Dead End (Second Try)

I do not think frustrating is a good enough word for this room. We really wanted to beat it, but even the second attempt with more people was futile. I feel quite bad about this, as it was the first time for one in the group and perhaps this wasn't the best place for that (some of their other rooms would be great). Some day maybe we will make it happen. And it isn't just us - check out this review from Escape Authority.

Escape Expert - Chase Case

This was pretty fun - we had a good group and are glad we came back for this one (especially after our defeat in Dead End). Really, this was an average difficulty room, but there were a few issues with the room reset that let us bypass a puzzle or two. Also, part of the room seemed extraneous (perhaps because of this mishap). We were lucky with the group we were a part of because everyone got it and helped make progress in getting through the puzzles. Something else we didn't mention in other reviews of this location that comes to mind now are the hints - you get three and you have to call on a phone so only one person in the group hears it instead of everyone. Also, you lose time in the timer each clue you use.

Theme:★★There were parts of this room that seemed out of place (and in some ways just more work that useful) but most of it was good.

Quality:★★★This was great except for one lock that opened without us doing anything (turns out that it wasn't reset).

Difficulty:★★There were a handful of sneaky puzzles in here that were difficult on the own without us missing them and making them even harder.

Fun:★★★We had a good time with the group we were paired with and there was one very fun puzzle in the mix.

Escape Expert - Dead End

This was an interesting experience (one we came back to share with our friends because we were hopeful). Some of the puzzles were pretty quick, and others took much more effort. We didn't get all the way to the end on our first attempt (or our second, for that matter) but we had a okay time in any case (at least the first time through). If they tell you that you really should more than two people, and then look at you like you are nuts when you decide to try anyways, perhaps that is a good sign you should listen.

This room left us with mixed feelings - we got out fine, but think this might be one of those times we did not win the pairing with random people lottery and that really made some parts of this way harder than it needed to be. It was very frustrating and because we didn't want them to have a bad experience we kept including them even though we'd have finished much sooner had we not.

Theme:★★This theme was hit or miss for us - some seemed better than the rest.

Quality:★★★Things worked well (nothing was broken).

Difficulty:★★★This was difficult, but not because the puzzles were hard, but because they relied on 5th grade (and some kindergarten) abilities that not everyone in the group could do.

Fun:★So much of this room was an exercise in frustration, and we had a hard time communicating with the two people we were paired up with.

11th Hour Escape - 4th Dimension

The was one of my first escape rooms. It was the first for most of the rest of our team as well. We did this as part of a bachelor party weekend and were happy to make it out alive. 11th Hour is based in Austin and has expanded throughout Texas. This room was their original room here and they had it through many openings and closing due to fire code and other shenanigans. It's a well done room by people who 'get' it and designed for a group to have a good time. Many of the puzzles that we encountered here were very novel at the time being early to to escape room career. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the origin of several of them that I have now seen in other rooms. When we played, it had 2 game masters and they were on top of everything - a great experience. The room was well designed and well themed.
